12/20 - Have You Seen Me?

We do not know when our Tower Ladder will be back in service!  Pierce started on refurbishing it
4 months ago and all we know is that at the end of every month the completion date keeps getting pushed back
by a month.  Our thoughts are that it may have been laddernapped!!!  If you want money we promise to pay
as soon as the finished product is delivered.  We miss our Tower and wish it a
Merry Christmas while it remains MIA.

12/7 - 852 & 842 Run a Working Fire in Lillington

Shortly after midnight members of the Buies Creek volunteer fire department were alerted
mutual aid to Lillington for a structure fire on Three Neighbors Ln.  E-842 & A-852 responded
with a total of 8 members.  Chief 701 arrived 1st and reported single story structure 50% involved.
E-842 was 1st in engine and began initial attack with two 1 3/4" attack lines as well as primary
search which was negative.  The fire was under control within 15 minutes.  Chief 701 held the first 2
engines to assist Harnett County Fire Marshall with investigation.  E-842 cleared the scene after 3 hours.
The cause was determined to have started from smoking material.

10/8 - Congrats to Lt. Josh Sorrell & Amber

Cayden on left Alexis on right in all pictures.  Daddy Josh is in the middle.

This afternoon at 3:58 p.m. Amber gave birth to a baby girl, then 1 minute later the delivery staff at the hospital
pulled out a baby boy!  Everyone is doing fine and will be in the hospital for about 4 days.  The
babies are named Alexis Rae Sorrell who weighed 6 lbs 9 ozs. & Cayden Vann Sorrell who
weighed 7 lbs and 9 ozs.  Good Luck to both of the new parents on what will be a life changing event.

9/10 - The New 851 Is Here

This morning Wheeled Coach delivered our ambulance to the station.  They spent the day installing the radio
systems as well as putting the graphics on it.  The chassis is a diesel E-450, with a 72" box for
performing medical care.  It has a complete LED lighting package as well as dual sirens and an air horn.  Wheeled coach will be
taking the old 851 with them as part of a trade in.  The old ambulance had been involved in several
accidents during it's 9 years in our fleet thus resulting in a banged up rig.  The new ambulance will be placed in
service as soon as everybody makes themselves familiar with it.

9/8 - New Ambulance Is Due Monday

After a long wait our new ambulance is supposed to be delivered to us on Monday September 10th.  Assistant Chief
James Garris flew to the plant in Florida on Friday to perform the final inspection.  The new bus will replace
a 1999 AEV Ford E-350, which was purchased when BCFD began EMS service at the EMT-Basic level in 1999. The
old A-851 is being traded in for the new one, the old bus will be refurbished and sold to have another life in another department
in the future.  BCFD is one of the last EMS squads in the county that relies heavily on
volunteers although we are supplemented by paid staff from 6 am - 6 pm Mon.-Fri.

9/7 - Busy Month For The Creek

During the month of August BCFD ran over 125 calls which is the most we've ran in a while.  For over the
past year we hit a slump in call volume and it started decreasing.  Now it looks like our business is picking up, we are
only 7 days into the month and are already close to 50 calls.  Thanks to all the volunteers and paid staff on making sure
we answer all the calls and continue to provide the highest level of service to our response area.

8/12 - Drowning in Cape Fear River

At 12:35 a.m. Buies Creek was called along with Summerville and the Harnett County Dive Team to respond
to a drowning at the Wildlife boat ramp south of Lillington on the Cape Fear River.  BCFD units set up lights along the
river in the Keith Hills subdivision in an effort to help if the victim was traveling with the current.  Our
services were not needed in the water as the victim was found in a hole about 15 feet under the water the dive team
removed the body and cleared District 8.  As E-822 was backing out a large crash was heard and
Fire Chief Chad Godwin was seen running for safety as half of a tree was falling towards him he made it to safety
and the tree missed the engine but just a few feet.

8/06 - Commercial Structure Fire

At 8:08 p.m. District 8 was toned out for a brush fire at 983 Mamie Upchurch Rd.  While enroute B-875 was
advised that fire was being upgraded to a commercial structure fire.  Captain Martin (806)
was on B-875 and had the alarm upgraded to a full structural response.  This put 5 engines, 1 rescue/truck,
1 ambulance, and 1 medic on the road.  When B-875 turned onto Mamie Upchurch Rd a 6th engine was requested
from District 9 (Angier).  Command was established by 806 and the 3 personnel on B-875 were able to keep the
fire in check until other units could arrive.  The fire was marked under control at 8:35 p.m.  Due to all of
Buies Creek's resources being tied up at the fire the engine from District 6 was cleared of the fire
to stand-by at our station for coverage.  Due to the heat (mid 90's) District 7 and 11 were requested mutual aid to assist
in overhaul.  The last Buies Creek unit cleared at 11:06 p.m.

Units on alarm: E-821, E-842, E-841, R-881, B-875,
E-642, E-741, E-941, E-1143

7/31 - 848 Takes A Road Trip To Appleton, Wis.

About noon T-848 was marked out of service to be sent north for refurbishing.  5 of our
brave members loaded into a rental van and took off on a trip to drop off our truck.  In day one they experienced
a blow out, but did not have an accident.  While stopped for fuel a family wanted to look at the
truck so the guys took a moment to take some photos and let the kids climb on the rig.
They arrived about midnight on Thursday.  On Thursday morning they
got a tour of the plant and then drove to the airport in Chicago so that 2 of those that went could
fly back home and go to work on Friday.  After stopping by Chicago Fire Truck 12 and Engine 110,
then they began their drive home and they arrived back in Buies Creek late Friday night.
We are expecting T-848 back sometime around late October to early November.

07/16 - E-842 Catches a Job in Angier

Shortly after 00:30 hours Monday morning Angier (District 9) got paged out to a vehicle fire endangering
a structure.  A district 9 captain arrived first and advised that fire had extended to the house in
the carport area.  E-842 responded with a full crew and was the 4th due engine.  District 9 personnel
got a good knock on the fire and kept it from extending through the attic.  E-842 crews checked for
extension and assisted with overhaul.  The home owner was transported and treated for burns to his
right arm.  E-842 was on-scene for about an hour.  This was the 2nd working structure within a week
that we have run with Angier Fire Department.

Units on the job : Buies Creek E-842

07/04 - Double Pin-in on Hwy 421

On the 4th BCFD was covering for Lillington during their celebration and fireworks.  While standing by
Harnett County Medic 21 advised of a 10-50 on Hwy 421 in the 1900 block.  The call was
dispatched as Lillington (district 7) fire and BCFD rescue.  E-842 & A-852 were the first in units,
they advised that there were 2 pins.  A-851 also responded along with E-741, & R-781.
The accident was actually in Buies Creek's fire district, but we chose to utilize units on-scene.  Both
fire departments worked together along with the county medics for 20 minutes to extricate the 2 victims.
The work was tough since the car was located about 20 ft. down an embankment
and overturned with one of the patients heads between the car door and the roof.  It took the
winch system off of R-781 along with the air bags and wood cribbing blocks to stabilize the vehicle
so that extrication could begin The other patient was pinned
with the door pushed in on her lower body.  A 3rd patient had crawled out of the car
and was sitting by the road.  2 were taken to Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital
and treated, the third was transported by UNC Air Care (Tarheel 2) Wake Med Hospital.

06/25 - E-842 on a run off Harnett Central School Rd

This afternoon Buies Creek was sent mutual aid to Angier for a commercial structure fire
E-842 was 3rd due, but the 1st in engine advised that it would be building material in the rear of the building.
All units continued on and Coats (District 6) was also requested for manpower. The fire was under control within
20 minutes.  E-842 cleared after about 45 minutes.

06/12 - Engine 842 Covers South side of County

This evening the Fire Marshall's office requested that District 8 move a engine company up to Flatwoods (District 2)
since the south end of the county was tied up on a townhouse fire in Spring Lake which started by
a lightning strike.  The engine stood by for about 4 hours and did not run anything. BCFD is just happy
knowing that we can be requested to provide coverage for a station about 30 minutes away.

05/27 - BCFD Will Be Losing 2 Part-Timers

This week marks the end for 2 of our truly dedicated part-time paid members.  Firefighter Chris Holcomb,
is leaving after 6 years of service.  Firefighter Holcomb started as a volunteer with us and soon switched to part-time
after being hired with Wake New Hope Fire Department and moving to North Raleigh.  He is now working for the
City of Raleigh Fire Department and will be working part-time with Wake New Hope FD.  Firefighter Doug Jones
is leaving after 2 years of service.  He works for Wake Med Hospital on their Critical Care Transport Trucks.  He is leaving
so he can work more with his full-time job.  Both members will be missed and we wish them the best of luck after June 1st.

05/03 - Hurst Tools Green Cross Award presented to Firefighter Jeffery Walker

Firefighter Jeffery Walker was given the Hurst Tools Green Cross Award after an extrication he performed on
February 1st, 2007.  On this date Buies Creek Fire was dispatched to a overturned vehicle on Leslie Campbell Avenue.
It had snowed that morning and by the time of the accident a layer of ice had accumulated on top of the snow.
Lieutenant 809 (J. Sorrell) arrived to find 1 vehicle overturned and partially submerged in a creek with 1 occupant still inside the
car.  809 requested a mutual aid crash truck from Coats Fire Department to assist with extrication due to the
situation at hand.  A-851, E-822, T-881, T-681, and EMS-3 responded.  Firefighter Walker was the first member to get in the
freezing cold creek to begin extrication.  809 had firefighters place 2 roof ladders into the creek for access, carrying tools, and getting the patient out.  The extrication took 15 minutes and the patient was carried out and given to EMS-3and A-851
for treatment.  There are 2 other members that will also be awarded for this call.  Their names will
be announced after their awards are presented.

4/23 - Vehicle Fire on Hwy 421

District 8 dispatched to a vehicle fire at 11 a.m.  A car traveling in southbound lanes pulled into center turn lane and
burst into flames resulting in a total loss.  808 (J. Sorrell) arrived and advised of single vehicle 50% involved in fire.  E-822 was
first on-scene and performed a quick knock on the fire.  E-842 was second due and assisted all units cleared after about
20 minutes.  Nobody was injured and the vehicle was a total loss.

4/21 - Live-burn Training

BCFD conducted another round of live-burn training evolutions today at the property owned by Harnett County.
Several departments participated they were Buies Creek, Coats, Erwin, Angier, Stony Hill (Wake County), and
Corinth-Holders (Johnston County).  The training lasted till 6 o'clock in the evening.  During the burn BCFD kept E-822
and Tower 848 in service.  Both of these trucks ran mutual aid with district 9 (Angier) on 2 different runs
the first was E-822 for a house on Windsor Dr. the second run was for Tower 848 on a townhouse fire in downtown Angier.
On both calls units were cancelled before arriving on-scene.  Thanks to everybody who participated and helped out today.

4/19 - Live-burn Training

District 8 conducted a live-burn tonight on Hwy. 421 across from the Harnett County Airport.  There are 4 buildings on the property that Harnett County owns, we will be burning them over the next month.  The property must be cleared so that planes flying out of the Harnett County Airport will have a clear and safe place to crash if something goes wrong.  These burns consisted of 2 barns that the instructors set on fire and the senior firemen instructed the new members on proper nozzle patterns and fire attack procedures.

covered as well as provide 5 personnel for fire response to LFD.  We also
