1st due fire alarm, upgraded to commercial structure fire

1/17/09 - At 23:30 hrs. BCFD was called to a fire alarm at Burkot Dorm at Campbell.  This was
not anything unusual as we typically respond to fire alarms on campus 3-5 times a week.  Upon
E-821 arrival they were advised that there was actually a fire on the 2nd floor in a dorm room.  The
IC 805 (Riewesthal) upgraded the response to a commercial structure fire.  Crews made there way
upstairs & found that the fire was out.  Crews ventilated the fire area & notified the Fire Marshall for
investigation.  Units remained on scene until 02:30 hrs. the next morning to assist the FM.  This makes
the 2nd fire in a student dormitory in the past 3 years.  Hopefully this may open some eyes & show
that not all fire alarms are false.  The cause of this fire is still under investigation by the FM office.

E-842 on a Major Working Fire in Angier

1/17/09 - Angier Black River fire department requested an engine from us around 1:30 hours.  E-842 responded & arrived to find the Angier fire dept. involved in a defensive attack at a 4 bay car repair shop.  Crews from E-842 assisted in opening up the roll-up doors & deploying 2 1/2" handlines into operation.  To worsen the situation they faced 9 degree temps. which caused a very icy fire scene.  The fire was reported on initial dispatch as already through the roof.  The 1st due engine reported that fire was showing upon arrival.  Crews from Angier tried to initiate an interior attack, but were driven back by the intense flames.  The building was deemed unsafe & crews were placed into a defensive position.  The fire took engines from 4 different departments & about 55 firefighters to control.  Harnett County Fire Marshall's 1,2,3 & 5 were onscene until around 16:00 hours that afternoon.

Winds & outdoor burning creates a large, slow woods fire

1/10/09 - At 15:30 hours BCFD was notified of a control burn that had gotten out of control.  Dispatch advised that Erwin was enroute with E-546, but the call was in our 1st due area.  E-842 responded, as advised by FM-4.  E-842 arrived & found Erwin crews attacking the head of the fire as it burned through a broom straw field.  Forestry 2 arrived on scene & initiated as back burn to prevent it from flaring up once it got to a patch of pine trees.  The back burn was successful & the fire burned itself out.  Erwin got another call & their unit had to clear.  E-841 was brought to the scene to assist during the last part of the back burning.  The fire burned a total of about 4 1/2 acres.
